21st February Paragraph
21st of February is a red letter day in
the history of Bangladesh. It is an International Mother Language Day. It has
great significance in the lives of Bangalees. On that day, in 1952, many
Bangalees laid down their lives for their mother tongue, Bangla. However, the
day is a glorious example of the sacrifice of language martyrs of Bangladesh.
On the day of 21st February, people across the country pay great tribute to the
language martyrs and give flowers at the Shaheed Minar. Moreover, on this day,
the national flag is kept at half-mast in all government and non-government
institutions. Many cultural events including traditional music, dance
performances, and recitations of poems in Bengali are held on this day.
Educational institutions and various organizations organize seminars and
symposiums to emphasize the importance of linguistic diversity and the
preservation of languages worldwide. In 1998, UNESCO declared 21st February as
International Mother Language Day. Since then people all over the world have observed
21st February as International Mother Language Day. Finally, Bengalees are the
only nation in the world that died for language and recognized 21st
February as International Mother Language.
