Gerund Participle and Infinitive

Gerund, Participle and Infinitive মূলত Non finite verb এর তিনটি ভাগ। এদের মধ্যে কেউ কাজ করে Noun এর এবং কেউ কাজ করে Adjective এর। অনেকে Gerund ও Present participle কে একই রকম মনে করে ভুল করে। আসলে Gerund, Participle and Infinitive তিনটাই Non finite verb হলেও এরা একে অপর থেকে সম্পূর্ণ আলাদা। আজ আমি এই আর্টিকেলে Gerund Participle and Infinitive এর মধ্যে স্পষ্ট পার্থক্য দেখিয়েছি। তোমরা যদি আর্টিকেলটি প্রথম থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত মনোযোগ সহকারে পড়ো তাহলে Gerund, Participle and Infinitive চিনতে তোমাদের কখনো ভুল হবে না। চলো তাহলে Gerund, Participle and Infinitive এর মধ্যে পার্থক্য দেখা যাক।

প্রথমে আমরা Gerund, Participle and Infinitive এর সংজ্ঞা জানব। এরপর উদাহরণ সহকারে একটির সাথে অন্যটির পার্থক্য দেখাবো।

Gerund কাকে বলে?

মূল verb এর শেষে ing যুক্ত হয়ে যদি একই সাথে Verb ও Noun এর কাজ করে তাহলে তাকে Gerund বলে।

যেমন:

a) Gardening is my favourite hobby.

b) I like fishing.

Participle কাকে বলে?

মূল Verb এর সাথে ing যুক্ত হয়ে অথবা verb এর Past participle form/V3 অথবা Having + V3 যদি একই সাথে Verb ও Adjective এর কাজ করে তাহলে তাকে Participle বলে।

যেমন:

a) I like my reading room.

b) This is a coaching centre.

Infinitive কাকে বলে?

To যুক্ত Verb কে Infinitive বলে। কখনও কখনও to sentence এর মধ্যে উহ্য থাকে। তখন উহাকে bare Infinitive বলে।

যেমন:

a) I want to send him the message.

a) He decided to buy a car

Classification of participle

Non finite verb এর তিনটি গ্রুপের মধ্যে Gerund and infinitive এর কোন ভাগ নেই কিন্তু Participle এর ভাগ আছে। Participle মূলত তিন ভাবে ভাগ করা যায়।

1. Present participle

2. Past participle

3. Perfect participle

Present participle কাকে বলে?

মূল Verb এর সাথে ing যুক্ত হয়ে যদি একই সাথে Verb ও Adjective এর কাজ করে তাহলে তাকে Present participle বলে।

যেমন:

a) I saw him drawing.

b) It is my dressing room.

Past participle কাকে বলে?

মূল এর Past participle form/V3 যদি একই সাথে Verb ও Adjective এর কাজ করে তাহলে তাকে Past participle বলে।

যেমন:

a) I bought a mobile phone made in Japan.

b) It is a printed message.

Perfect participle কাকে বলে?

Having+V3 যদি একই সাথে Verb ও Adjective এর কাজ করে তাহলে তাকে Perfect participle বলে।

যেমন:

a) Having done the work, he went away.

b) Having finished the work, I went home.

Gerund and participle এর মধ্যে পার্থক্য কি?

Gerund হল Noun কিন্তু Participle হল Adjective. Gerund ও Present participle দেখতে একই রকম হলেও Gerund কাজ করে Noun এর এবং Present participle কাজ করে Adjective এর। আর Past participle ও Perfect participle এর সাথে Gerund এর কোন মিল নেই।

Infinitive ও gerund এর মধ্যে পার্থক্য হল Infinitive তৈরি হয় To+V1 দিয়ে। আর Gerund তৈরি হয় Verb+ing দিয়ে। কিন্তু এরা উভয়ই Noun.

Infinitive এবং Present participle এর মধ্যে পার্থক্য কি?

Infinitive এবং Present participle এর মধ্যে পার্থক্য হল Infinitive তৈরি হয় To+V1 দিয়ে। এটি মূলত Noun. অন্যদিকে Present participle তৈরি হয় Verb+ing দিয়ে। এটি মূলত Adjective.

Participle phrase কাকে বলে?

Participle এর সাথে কোন কিছু যোগ করলে তাকে Participle phrase বলে।

যেমন:

a) I saw him going.

এখানে going participle

b) I saw him going to college.

এখানে going to college participle phrase

Present participle phrase কাকে বলে?

Present Participle এর সাথে কোন কিছু যোগ করলে তাকে Present participle phrase বলে।

যেমন:

a) I saw the boy running.

এখানে running Present participle

b) I saw the boy running in the field.

এখানে running in the field Present participle phrase

Past participle phrase কাকে বলে?

Past Participle এর সাথে কোন কিছু যোগ করলে তাকে Past participle phrase বলে।

যেমন:

a) The poor are neglected people.

এখানে neglected Past participle

b) I bought an android made in China.

এখানে made in China Past participle phrase

Infinitive phrase কাকে বলে?

Infinitive (to+V1) এর সাথে কোন কিছু যোগ করলে তাকে Infinitive participle phrase বলে।

যেমন:

a) He decided to go.

এখানে to go Infinitive

b) He decided to go to school.

এখানে to go to school Infinitive participle phrase

NB: Gerund subject ও object হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। Participle subject ও object এর পূর্বে বসে ও complement হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। Participle এবং Infinitive ও subject ও object হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
