Folk music is a form of traditional music. It reflects the cultural identity and traditions of the people of a particular region. It is passed down from generation to generation. Usually, it is sung with traditional instruments such as guitar, banjo and flute. It tells the story of life. It also conveys important messages about life, love, struggle and social or political issues.It is an excellent means of protest or resistance against social and political oppression. It is an important part of many festivals, celebrations and cultural events around the world. A notable feature of folk music is its simplicity. However, folk music is found all over the world and varies from region to region. It keeps culture alive. People from all walks of life listen to folk music for the satisfaction of their souls. Some people are crazy about folk music. It is very popular now. Like other countries in the world, Bangladesh is also rich in folk music. The most popular forms of folk music in Bangladesh are Baul song, Lalan song, Palli song, Kabigun, Bhawaya, Bhatiali etc. And, the popular stars of folk music of our country are Lalon Shah, Abdul Karim, Hasan Raja and Abbas Uddin. After all, folk music is an important part of cultural heritage that entertains people as well as educates them.
