A bus stand is a busy and crowded place in cities or towns. It is a place where buses stop and from where buses leave. Buses leave from the bus stand at regular intervals. There is a temporary shed for passengers at a bus stand. Passengers buy tickets from the ticket counter and wait for the buses in this shed. They have to queue up to buy tickets. As soon as the buses reach the bus stand, the passengers get into the buses. There are tea stalls, small shops, betel leaf and cigarette hawkers, and hotels for passengers at a bus stand. Passengers buy their necessary things from these shops, eat at hotels if they are hungry and take tea from tea stalls. There are many porters to carry passengers' luggage at the bus stand. If the passengers have luggage, they rush to them before calling and carry it on their heads or shoulders. Besides, there are newspaper and seasonal fruit sellers at the bus stand. They go to passengers with newspapers and seasonal fruits as soon as they get off the bus or after they get into the bus. The great problem at a bus stand is pickpockets. If the passengers are a little careless, they have to fall victim to pickpocketing. So, everyone should be aware of the bus stand.

বাসস্ট্যান্ড বড় শহর বা ছোট শহরের মধ্যে একটি ব্যস্ত ও জনাকীর্ণ স্হান। এটি এমন একটি স্হান যেখানে বাস থামে এবং যেখান থেকে বাস ছাড়ে। বাসস্ট্যান্ড থেকে একটি নির্দিষ্ট সময় পর পর বাস ছাড়ে। বাসস্ট্যান্ডে যাত্রীদের জন্য অস্থায়ী একটি শেড থাকে। যাত্রীরা টিকিট কাউন্টার থেকে টিকিট ক্রয় করে এই শেডে বাসের জন্য অপেক্ষা করতে থাকে। টিকিট কেনার জন্য তাদের সারিবদ্ধভাবেলাইনে দাঁড়াতে হয়। বাসস্ট্যান্ডে বাস পৌছালেই যাত্রীরা বাসে উঠে পড়ে। বাসস্ট্যান্ডে যাত্রীদের জন্য টি-স্টল, ছোট দোকান, পান-সিগারেট বিক্রির হকার ও হোটেল থাকে। এসব দোকান থেকে যাত্রীরা তাদের প্রয়োজনীয় জিনিসপত্র ক্রয় করে, ক্ষুদা লাগলে তারা হোটেলে খাওয়া দাওয়া করে এবং টি-স্টল থেকে চা খায়। বাসস্ট্যান্ড যাত্রীদের মালামাল বহন করার জন্য কুলি থাকে। যাত্রীদের লাগেজ থাকলে তারা ডাকার আগেই তাদের কাছে ছুটে যায় এবং লাগেজগুলো মাথায় বা কাঁধে তুলে নেয়। এছাড়া বাসস্ট্যান্ডে পত্রিকা ও মৌসুমি ফল বিক্রেতা থাকে। তারা বাস থেকে যাত্রীরা নামলেই কিংবা যাত্রীরা বাসে উঠার পর পত্রিকা ও মৌসুমি ফল নিয়ে তাদের কাছে যায়। বাসস্ট্যান্ডের বড় সমস্যা হল এখানে পকেটমার থাকে। যাত্রীরা একটু বেখেয়ালে হলেই পকেটমারের শিকার হতে হয়। তাই বাসস্ট্যান্ডে সবাইকে সচেতন থাকা উচিত।
