Once upon a time, there was a devout Muslim named Abou Ben Adhem. He always did good deeds and worshiped Allah regularly with firmness. One night suddenly he woke up and saw that his room was full of light and light. He was surprised to see the light. Then he saw an angel standing in his room and writing something on a tablet. At that time Abou Ben Adhem asked the angel what he was writing on the tablet. The angel replied that he was writing the names of people who love Allah. Then Abou Ben Adhem curiously asked the angel if his name was on the list. The angel replied in the negative. Then Abou Ben Adhem asked the angel why his name was not on the list. He does good deeds and loves Allah. The angel said that perhaps he does not love those whom Allah loves. Then Abou Ben Adhem asked the angel whom Allah loves. The angel said that Allah loves his creation, especially the poor and needy. After hearing this, Abou Ben Adhem distributed all his wealth among the poor and needy. After a few months, one night the angel came to the house of Abou Ben Adhem again. The room was filled with light. Then the angel showed him the list of names. The name of Abou Ben Adhem was at the top of the list. Finally, the angel said, “Now you love those whom Allah loves." Saying this, the angel disappeared.

একদা আবু বেন আদেম নামে এক ধর্মপ্রাণ মুসলমান ছিলেন। তিনি সর্বদা ভাল কাজ করতেন এবং দৃঢ়তার সাথে নিয়মিত আল্লাহর ইবাদত করতেন। একদিন রাতে হঠাৎ তিনি ঘুম থেকে জেগে দেখলেন তার ঘর আলোয় ভরে গেছে। আলো দেখে তিনি অবাক হলেন। এরপর তিনি দেখলেন একজন ফেরেশতা তার ঘরে দাঁড়িয়ে একটি ট্যাবলেটে কিছু লিখছেন। ঐ সময় আবু বেন আদেম ফেরেশতাকে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন যে তিনি ট্যাবলেটে কি লিখছেন। ফেরেশতা উত্তর দিলেন যে তিনি এমন লোকদের নাম লিখছেন যারা আল্লাহকে ভালোবাসে। তারপর আবু বেন আদেম কৌতূহলবশত ফেরেশতাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন যে তার নাম সেই তালিকায় আছে কিনা। ফেরেশতা নেতিবাচক জবাব দিলেন। তারপর আবু বেন আদেম ফেরেশতাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন কেন তার নাম তালিকায় নেই। তিনিতো ভালো কাজ করেন এবং আল্লাহকে ভালোবাসেন। ফেরেশতা বললেন যে আল্লাহ যাদের ভালোবাসেন তিনি হয়তো তাদের ভালোবাসেন না। তখন আবু বেন আদেম ফেরেশতাকে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন আল্লাহ কাদের ভালবাসেন। ফেরেশতা বললেন যে আল্লাহ তাঁর সৃষ্টিকে ভালোবাসেন, বিশেষ করে গরীব-দুঃখীকে। একথা শোনার পর আবু বেন আদেম তার সমস্ত সম্পদ গরীব-দুঃখীদের মধ্যে বিলিয়ে দেন। কয়েক মাস পর এক রাতে ফেরেশতা আবু বেন আদমের ঘরে আবার আসলেন। ঘরটা আলোয় ভরে গেল। তারপর ফেরেশতা তাকে নামের তালিকা দেখালেন। আবু বেন আদমের নাম তালিকার শীর্ষে ছিল। অবশেষে, ফেরেশতা বললেন, "এখন তুমি তাদের ভালোবাসো যাদের আল্লাহ ভালোবাসেন।" এই বলে ফেরেশতা অদৃশ্য হয়ে গেলেন।
