Look before you leap story
Once a fox was very thirsty on a very hot summer day. He was wandering here and there all day in search of water to drink. At last, he came to a well. The well was very deep and there was little water at the bottom of the well. He entered the well, drank water, and quenched his thirst. After drinking water, he tried to get out of the well but could not. Just then a goat came to the well to drink water. He saw the fox in the well and said, "What are you doing there?" The fox replied, "I am drinking water here. The water in this well is very sweet. Do you want to drink this sweet water? If you want, jump into the well." The goat was also very thirsty. He jumped into the well without thinking. The fox got a great chance. He immediately jumped on the goat's back and came out of the well holding its long horns. The fox looked into the well before leaving and said, "You are a foolish goat. Why don't you think before jumping?" Then the goat started screaming and tried to get out of the well but failed. Finally, the goat asked the fox for help but the fox left the place without helping him.

একবার গ্রীষ্মের এক প্রচণ্ড গরমের দিনে একটি শিয়াল খুব তৃষ্ণার্ত ছিল। পানের পানির খোঁজে সে সারাদিন এদিক ওদিক ঘুরে বেড়াচ্ছিল। অবশেষে সে একটি কূপের কাছে এল। কূপটি খুব গভীর ছিল এবং কূপের তলায় সামান্য পানি ছিল। সে কুয়োতে ঢুকে পানি পান করে তৃষ্ণা নিবারণ করল। পানি পান করার পর সে কুয়ো থেকে বের হওয়ার চেষ্টা করল কিন্তু পারল না। ঠিক তখনই একটি ছাগল কুয়োর কাছে পানি খেতে এল। সে কুয়োর মধ্যে শিয়ালকে দেখে বলল, "তুমি ওখানে কি করছ?" শেয়াল উত্তর দিল, "আমি এখানে পানি খাচ্ছি। এই কুয়োর পানি খুব মিষ্টি। তুমি কি এই মিষ্টি পানি পান করতে চাও? যদি চাও তাহলে কুয়োতে লাফ দাও।" ছাগলটিও খুব তৃষ্ণার্ত ছিল। সে কিছু না ভেবেই কুয়োতে লাফ দিল। শেয়াল একটা দারুণ সুযোগ পেল। সে তখনই ছাগলের পিঠে লাফিয়ে পডল এবং লম্বা শিং ধরে কুয়ো থেকে বেরিয়ে আসল। শেয়াল যাওয়ার আগে কুয়োর দিকে তাকিয়ে বলল, "তুমি একটা বোকা ছাগল, লাফ দেওয়ার আগে চিন্তা করলে না কেন?" তখন ছাগলটি চিৎকার করতে থাকল এবং কুয়ো থেকে বের হওয়ার চেষ্টা করেও ব্যর্থ হল। পরিশেষে ছাগলটি শেয়ালের কাছে সাহায্য চাইল কিন্তু শেয়ালটি তাকে সাহায্য না করেই স্হান ত্যাগ করল।
