Computer is a great blessing of science in the age of modern information technology. Nowadays nothing is possible without a computer. Basically, a computer is a magic box. The impossible, the possible, the good, and the bad are all in this magic box. This magic box called a computer was invented by Charles Babbage in 1822. It is a device that can solve any problem in a short time. A trained mathematician is nothing to a computer. Now there are two types of computers. They are analog and digital. The first provides information in terms of quantity. And, the second provides information in terms of numbers. There are 4 main parts of a computer. They are input, memory, processor, and output. Data is supplied to the computer through input. After processing, data is stored permanently and temporarily in memory. The processor acts on the data according to the instructions. And, through output, the results are obtained from the data. The language used to provide information and instructions to the computer is called programming language. Everything together is called computer software and the structure that controls the activity of the computer is called hardware. Nowadays the computer has many advantages. It saves time and labor, speeds up work, and reduces costs. Now it is widely used in all sectors including educational institutions, offices, courts, banking and insurance, industry, and laboratories in most countries of the world. Besides, after the invention of the computer, it has taken the place of TV. In addition to doing the necessary work, now people listen to music and watch videos on the computer. After all, it is impossible to think of anything in the present world without a computer.

আধুনিক তথ্য প্রযুক্তির যুগে কম্পিউটার বিজ্ঞানের এক বিরাট আশীর্বাদ। আজকাল কম্পিউটার ছাড়া কিছুই সম্ভব না। মূলত, কম্পিউটার একটি জাদুর বাক্স। অসম্ভব, সম্ভব, ভালো মন্দ সবই এই জাদুর বাক্সের মধ্যে আছে। কম্পিউটার নামক এই জাদুর বক্সটি ১৮২২ সালে চার্লস ব্যাবেজ আবিষ্কার করেন। এটি এমন একটি যন্ত্র যা অল্প সময়ে যেকোনো সমস্যার সমাধান করতে পারে। একজন প্রশিক্ষিত গণিতবিদ কম্পিউটারের কাছে কিছুই না। এখন কম্পিউটার দুই প্রকার। সেগুলো হল এনালগ এবং ডিজিটাল। প্রথমটি পরিমাণের ক্ষেত্রে তথ্য প্রদান করে। আর দ্বিতীয়টি সংখ্যার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে তথ্য সরবরাহ করে। একটি কম্পিউটারের ৪টি প্রধান অংশ থাকে। সেগুলো হল ইনপুট, মেমরি, প্রসেসর এবং আউটপুট। ইনপুটের মাধ্যমে কম্পিউটারে ডেটা সরবরাহ করা হয়। প্রক্রিয়াকরণের পরে, ডেটা স্থায়ীভাবে এবং অস্থায়ীভাবে মেমরিতে সংরক্ষণ করা হয়। প্রসেসর নির্দেশাবলী অনুযায়ী ডেটাতে কাজ করে। আর আউটপুট মাধ্যমে তথ্যে উপর ফলাফল পাওয়া যায়। কম্পিউটারে তথ্য ও নির্দেশ প্রদানের জন্য যে ভাষা ব্যবহার করা হয় তাকে প্রোগ্রামিং ভাষা বলে। সব কিছুকে একত্রে বলা হয় কম্পিউটার সফটওয়্যার এবং যে কাঠামো কম্পিউটারের কার্যকলাপ নিয়ন্ত্রণ করে তাকে হার্ডওয়্যার বলে।আজকাল কম্পিউটারের অনেক সুবিধা রয়েছে। এটি সময় এবং শ্রম বাঁচায়, কাজের গতি বাড়ায় এবং খরচ কমায়।এখন এটি বিশ্বের বেশিরভাগ দেশে শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান, অফিস, আদালত, ব্যাংকিং ও বীমা, শিল্প এবং গবেষণাগার সহ সকল ক্ষেত্রে ব্যাপকভাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। এছাড়া কম্পিউটার আবিস্কারের পর এটি টিভির জায়গা দখল করে নিয়েছে। প্রয়োজনীয় কাজ করার পাশাপাশি এখন মানুষ কম্পিউটারে গান শোনে এবং ভিডিও দেখে। সর্বোপরি, বর্তমান বিশ্বে কম্পিউটার ছাড়া কিছুই ভাবা অসম্ভব।
