Once upon a time, there was a fox in a forest. He was very hungry. He was searching for food in the forest. He got tired of searching for food. At last, he came to a vineyard. He was very greedy when he saw the bunch of grapes. But the bunch of grapes were out of his reach and too high. He couldn't resist his temptation at the sight of ripe grapes and his mouth almost watered. He desired to eat the grapes. And so he thought for some time how he would reach the grapes. He firmly believed that he could easily reach the grapes and eat them to his heart's content. At one point he started to jump to pick the grapes but the grapes were hanging too high. He jumped and tried several times to pick the grapes but failed each time. Finally, he got tired and frustrated. Then he thought that he couldn't try anymore. As a result, he will no longer eat grapes. So, he went away. And at the time of going away, he consoled himself by saying that grapes are sour.

এক সময় এক বনে একটি শিয়াল ছিল। সে খুব ক্ষুধার্ত ছিল। সে বনে খাবার খুঁজছিল। খাবার খুঁজতে খুঁজতে সে ক্লান্ত হয়ে পড়ল। অবশেষে, সে একটি আঙ্গর ক্ষেতের কাছে আসলো। আঙ্গুরের থোকা দেখে তার খুব লোভ হল। কিন্তু আঙ্গুরের থোকাগুলো তার নাগালের বাইরে ছিল এবং অনেক উঁচুতে ছিল। পাকা আঙ্গুর দেখে সে তার লোভ সামলাতে পারল না এবং তার মুখে প্রায় পানি এসে গেল। সে আঙুর খেতে ইচ্ছা করল। আর তাই সে কিছু সময়ের জন্য চিন্তা করল কিভাবে সে আঙ্গুরের কাছে পৌঁছাবে। তার দৃঢ় বিশ্বাস ছিল যে সে সহজেই আঙ্গুরের কাছে পৌঁছাতে পারবে এবং সেগুলো হৃদয়ের তৃপ্তি সহ খেতে পারবে। এক পর্যায়ে সে আঙ্গুর পাড়তে লাফাতে শুরু করল কিন্তু আঙুরগুলো অনেক উঁচুতে ঝুলছিল। সে লাফিয়ে লাফিয়ে বেশ কয়েকবার আঙ্গুর পাড়ার চেষ্টা করল কিন্তু প্রতিবারই ব্যর্থ হল। অবশেষে, সে ক্লান্ত ও হতাশ হয়ে পড়ল। তারপর সে ভাবল যে তার পক্ষে আর চেষ্টা করা সম্ভব না। ফলে তার আর আঙ্গর খাওয়া হবে না। তাই সে চলে গেল। আর চলে যাওয়ার সময় নিজেকে সান্ত্বনা দিল এই বলে যে আঙুর ফল টক।
