Nowadays traffic jam is a great problem in the world, especially in Bangladesh. Mainly, it occurs only because of the unconsciousness, ignorance and inefficiency of people. Actually, a traffic jam means a long line of vehicles stuck in the middle of the road. There are many causes of traffic jams. The main causes of traffic jams are overpopulation, violation of traffic laws, overtaking tendency and ignorance of the drivers, unfit and unlicensed vehicles, lack of necessary traffic police, negligence of traffic rules, and lack of strictness and enforcement of traffic laws. Usually, traffic jam is seen in big cities and towns. However, the consequences of traffic jams are very serious. As a result of traffic jams, employees can't reach their offices on time, students can't go to their educational institutions, many dying patients die on the roads before they reach the hospital and fire service personnel can't reach the burning areas fast for putting out the fire. So, the problem of traffic jams should be solved immediately. And, for this, well-planned wide and double-decked roads should be constructed. Vehicles should be forced to move in one direction. Drivers should be forced to obey traffic laws. Adequate traffic police should be deployed at important points on the roads. Unlicensed and unfit vehicles should be stopped running on the roads. Above all, to get rid of traffic jams, strong and exemplary punishment should be imposed against traffic law violators.

বর্তমানে বিশ্বে বিশেষ করে বাংলাদেশে যানজট একটি বড় সমস্যা। মূলত: এটি শুধুমাত্র মানুষের অসচেতনতা, অজ্ঞতা এবং অদক্ষতার কারণে ঘটে। প্রকৃতপক্ষে, যানজট মানে রাস্তার মাঝখানে আটকে থাকা যানবাহনের দীর্ঘ লাইন। যানজটের অনেক কারণ আছে। যানজটের প্রধান কারণ হলো অতিরিক্ত জনসংখ্যা, ট্রাফিক আইন লঙ্ঘন, চালকদের ওভারটেকিং প্রবণতা ও অজ্ঞতা, অনুপযুক্ত ও লাইসেন্সবিহীন যানবাহন, প্রয়োজনীয় ট্রাফিক পুলিশের অভাব, ট্রাফিক নিয়মের প্রতি অবহেলা এবং ট্রাফিক আইনের কঠোরতা ও প্রয়োগের অভাব। সাধারণত বড় বড় শহরে যানজট দেখা যায়। যাইহোক, যানজটের পরিণতি খুবই খারাপ। যানজটের ফলে কর্মচারীরা তাদের অফিসে সময়মতো পৌঁছাতে পারে না, শিক্ষার্থীরা তাদের শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে যেতে পারে না, অনেক মুমূর্ষু রোগী হাসপাতালে পৌঁছানোর আগেই রাস্তায় মারা যায় এবং ফায়ার সার্ভিস কর্মীরা আগুন নেভানোর জন্য দ্রুত অগ্নি কবলিত এলাকায় পৌঁছাতে পারে না। তাই অবিলম্বে যানজটের সমস্যার সমাধান করতে হবে। আর এ জন্য সুপরিকল্পিত সূদুরপ্রসারি ও দ্বিতল সড়ক নির্মাণ করতে হবে। যানবাহন একদিকে চলতে বাধ্য করতে হবে। ট্রাফিক আইন মানতে চালকদের বাধ্য করতে হবে। সড়কের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পয়েন্টে পর্যাপ্ত ট্রাফিক পুলিশ মোতায়েন করতে হবে। লাইসেন্সবিহীন ও অনুপযুক্ত যানবাহন রাস্তায় চলাচল বন্ধ করতে হবে। সর্বোপরি যানজট থেকে রেহাই পেতে ট্রাফিক আইন অমান্যকারীদের বিরুদ্ধে কঠোর ও দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তির ব্যবস্থা করতে হবে।
